How “Coincidentally” Eco-Shop & Ninso Raised Prices on 14/4/25 – Why The Same Move?

Eco-Shop & Ninso Price Hike: RM2.60 Era Begins?

Eco-Shop and Ninso has increased prices starting 14 April 2025. They’re shifting from RM2.40 to RM2.60. From 14 April 2025, the flat RM2.40 price in Semenanjung Malaysia will rise to RM2.60, while in Sabah, Sarawak & Langkawi, prices will go from RM2.60 to RM2.80.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Semenanjung Malaysia: RM2.40 → RM2.60 (+8.33%)
  • Sabah, Sarawak & Langkawi: RM2.60 → RM2.80 (+7.69%)


Same Owner, Same Timing – Coincidence?

There are still far less information on the origin on both Eco-Shop and Ninso. From the respective websites, we can only know Ninso started from Kluang Johor in 2017 with 98 outlets while Eco-shop started in Gemas Johor in 2003 with 290+ outlets. The only info found online [1,2] suggested that the current owner/ shareholder of Eco-Shop is known to be Lee Kar Whatt. As for Ninso, the managing director currently is Kar Ho Tan. 

Nonetheless, the same price increase and the same date implies that it would be a strategy from either one or both parties to ensure the balance of businesses (I guess)


Will Malaysians Still Shop Here?

With rising living costs and inflation, these new prices may hit low-income families the hardest. Many Malaysians are asking: Is the RM2.40 era officially over? From what I observed from these few days on the physical stores, the increase of prices did not defer the customer for doing their daily purchases. 


Conclusion

Both brands promise to maintain quality and affordability— but now shoppers may have fewer choices for real price competition.
